Job Title: Canine Rehabilitation Veterinary Technician (Part-Time)
Location: Mid Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH) in Huntingtown, MD
Schedule: Part-Time, Compressed Work Week (Tuesday – Thursday)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Canine Rehabilitation Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. This part-time position offers a unique compressed work week, with hours from Tuesday through Thursday. The role focuses on supporting the rehabilitation therapist in providing top-quality care for our canine patients, assisting with therapeutic treatments, and ensuring the smooth operation of our rehabilitation facility.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in animal handling within veterinary medicine, a good understanding of animal behavior, and excellent communication skills to interact effectively with both clients and team members.
Key Responsibilities:
– Patient Handling & Support: Assist the rehabilitation therapist with patient handling during physical therapy treatments, including guiding and positioning patients during sessions.
– Treatment Area Prep: Prepare and maintain the rehabilitation treatment area, ensuring it is clean, safe, and organized at all times for both patients and staff.
– Rehabilitation Equipment Maintenance: Clean, disinfect, and maintain rehabilitation equipment such as the underwater treadmill, therapeutic lasers, and other modalities used in patient care. Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition.
– Water Chemistry Monitoring: Monitor and maintain the water quality of the underwater treadmill, including checking water chemistry, temperature, filters and cleanliness to ensure a safe and effective environment for rehabilitation.
– Client Communication & Education: Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their pet’s rehabilitation progress, home care instructions, and upcoming appointments. Answer client questions and provide updates as needed.
– Billing & Scheduling: Assist with billing and appointment scheduling, ensuring accurate documentation of services rendered and facilitating the smooth flow of patient visits.
– Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records for all rehabilitation patients, documenting treatments, progress, and any relevant observations. Follow clinic protocols for confidentiality and compliance.
Qualifications:
– Experience: Previous experience in animal handling within veterinary medicine, with a strong preference for experience in rehabilitation or physical therapy settings. Prior experience with canine behavior and handling techniques is highly desirable.
– Skills:
– Knowledge of animal behavior and body language.
– Ability to work well with patients of varying temperaments and physical conditions.
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
– Good interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
– Education: A veterinary technician certificate/degree or veterinary experience is preferred. A background in canine rehabilitation, physical therapy, or related fields is a plus.
– Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and handle dogs of various sizes, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with rehabilitation procedures.
